Overview
Why It Looks Like That is a static educational website about television picture quality, video standards, display behavior, measurement, and calibration. It does not require an account, login, purchase, newsletter signup, or comment system.
This policy distinguishes information handled directly by the site owner from technical information processed by Cloudflare while hosting, delivering, securing, and measuring the site.
Information not collected directly by the site owner
The site owner has not added registration forms, advertising systems, social-media widgets, behavioral trackers, or third-party analytics services. The website source contains no separate analytics script. Cloudflare Web Analytics is enabled through Cloudflare and its beacon is automatically inserted after deployment.
The site does not create visitor accounts or profiles and does not ask visitors to submit names, addresses, payment information, or other personal details through the website.
Contact messages
If you email the site owner, the information you choose to send may be used to read, respond to, and maintain a record of the message. Do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your request.
Email is handled by the service providers used by the sender and recipient. Those providers may process message content and metadata under their own terms and privacy policies.
Cloudflare hosting, delivery, and security
The site is hosted and delivered through Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare may process technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, including IP addresses, request headers, browser and device information, requested URLs, request times, routing and caching information, and security events.
The site owner does not use this technical information to create advertising profiles. Cloudflare controls its own processing, retention, and security practices under its current service terms and privacy documentation.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate readership and page performance. The automatically injected beacon reports information including page views, page path, referrer, browser, operating system, device category, country, navigation type, page-performance measurements, and a temporary identifier associated with an individual page load.
Cloudflare documents Web Analytics as cookie-less. Its beacon does not use cookies or browser storage. Cloudflare receives an IP address as part of the web request but states that the address is discarded rather than stored in its Web Analytics datasets. The dashboard available to the site owner presents aggregate measurements, not visitor names, email addresses, or persistent visitor profiles.
Preferred Source button measurement
Article pages may include a button that opens Google’s Preferred Sources page. When a visitor activates that button, the request first passes through a first-party Cloudflare Worker so the site can record an aggregate interaction count before redirecting to Google.
The custom analytics record contains the event type, the article path, and the button location. The site does not write the visitor’s IP address, user agent, name, email address, advertising identifier, or persistent user identifier into this dataset, and the feature does not use cookies or browser storage. A recorded button activation does not show whether the visitor completed the selection in Google.
Cookies and browser storage
The site owner has not added code that sets cookies or uses local storage for analytics, advertising, accounts, or personalization. Cloudflare Web Analytics itself is cookie-less.
Cloudflare may use a strictly necessary cookie if an applicable security, traffic-management, or challenge feature requires one for a particular request. Such a cookie would support delivery or security rather than advertising or site personalization. See the Cookie Policy for additional detail.
Third-party links
The site may link to standards bodies, manufacturers, calibration providers, measurement reviewers, software and equipment providers, videos, documents, and other outside resources. Those services are operated independently and may collect information under their own privacy policies.
Following an outside link leaves Why It Looks Like That. This site does not control the destination site's technology, content, security, or privacy practices.
Your choices and requests
You may ask whether the site owner retains an email message you sent and may request correction or deletion of that correspondence, subject to records that may reasonably need to be kept for security, legal, or operational purposes.
Because the site has no visitor accounts and the Cloudflare Web Analytics dashboard does not identify visitors by name or persistent profile, the site owner generally cannot locate analytics information associated with a particular person. Changes to this policy
This policy may be revised if the site adds forms, embedded media, advertising, another analytics service, or other features that change how information is handled. The last-updated date at the top of the page identifies the latest published version.
